Cláudia M. Deus (CMD) obtained a Biotechnology BSc. from the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in 2008, studying the effects of chronic toxicity of alcohol in Wistar Rats. In 2012, CMD completed her Master’s in Applied Biology with a specialization in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Aveiro (UA), investigating the role of sirtuins in resveratrol cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells. In 2021, she concluded the PhD studies in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine with specialization in Neurosciences and Disease (BEB - PhD Programme) at the University of Coimbra. Her PhD work focused in the investigation of “Metabolic remodeling and quality control mechanisms in Parkinson’s Disease”. During her PhD studies, CMD carried out a scientific international secondment (Göttingen, Germany) to obtain advanced training in the role of mitochondrial and lysosomal function in Parkinson’s disease. CMD has participated extensively as a team member in several research and development (R&D) projects in mitochondrial biology. Currently, CMD is working as Superior Laboratory Technician in the MitoXT - Mitochondrial Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics Laboratory at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra in a FCT-funded project MitoScreening (PTDC/BTM-SAL/29297/2017), which is related with development and validation of innovative screening methods for mitochondrial health modulators. As a main scientific area of research, CMD is interested in mitochondrial alterations in several diseases and mitochondrial-directed chemical toxicology. CMD has 18 peer-reviewed publications, 17 publications in conference proceedings and more than 30 communications in scientific meetings, including posters and oral presentations.
