CNC-UC/CiBB researcher Luísa Cortes is the first chair of the Coordinating Council of the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures. The organization was recently set up with the aim of strengthening coordination between scientific infrastructures of national strategic interest, as well as serving as a “contact structure for public policies or, for example, for meetings with the government,” writes the portuguese newspaper Público on November 3.
A researcher at CNC-UC and national coordinator of the Portuguese Platform of BioImaging (PPBI), Luísa Cortes has made an outstanding contribution to strengthening and positioning national research infrastructures. The election represents recognition of her career and the relevance of CNC-UC in consolidating national scientific policy, an institution where she coordinates scientific platforms and the Microscopy Imaging Center of Coimbra.
The Coordinating Council of the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures comprises the 56 infrastructures included in that roadmap identified by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and aims to promote the coordination and joint development of these platforms, which are essential to the country's scientific and technological progress. “It will be a space where we can engage in comprehensive dialogue and speak with one voice with the government,” Luísa Cortes told Público.
The newspaper Público also writes that “the new structure comes after a suggestion by the Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, Helena Canhão, and will be part of the working group that will review the science law.”
