PubhD Coimbra

PubhD Coimbra is a monthly event that invites 3 PhD students to explain their research projects in a casual environment, at Liquidâmbar pub. PhD students from any field, such as Engineer, Mathematics, Biology, Law, History and Social Sciences, have 10 minutes and only one board to present their PhD in a way that the general public easily understands. This initiative was launched in Nottingham in 2014 and is now spread across several European countries. CNC researchers have been participating in several editions.

Testimonies

"It was quite interesting, I really enjoyed it. There were a lot of people in the audience, which is a bit intimidating for those in front of the microphone, but it was nice and also the questions at the end, it was interesting to see that sharing of knowledge."

Ana Carolina Silva, estudante de doutoramento CNC-UC / CIBB (2024)

"My experience here today was very interesting, especially the question-and-answer period with the audience, which allowed me to see different perspectives on what my doctoral project is about - I was able to see perspectives that I probably wasn't used to, nor have I been used to in the last four years."

João Cardoso, estudante de doutoramento CNC-UC / CIBB (2023)

"The main challenge was the language, because it's the first event I've done completely in Portuguese. And that's a big problem for me. I even brought a speech, I studied it. But in the end, when I went on stage, I didn't follow it. I just spoke with what was in my head. And I was a bit shy at first, but I felt more relaxed afterwards, and having my friends in the audience helped a lot. It was fun. Yes, it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the experience."

Elisa Corti, estudante de doutoramento CNC-UC / CIBB (2023)
