PDBEB Courses 2025/2026 - From Data to Discovery: A Hands-On Workshop on OMICS Data Analysis

Aim

This advanced PhD course aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to access, analyse, and critically interpret OMICS data in modern biomedical research. The mandatory core part of the course (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) focuses on building a strong conceptual understanding of OMICS data analytics. Through a mix of theoretical seminars and hands-on work with public datasets and web-based tools, participants learn how to analyse their own OMICS datasets and how to confidently utilise the wealth of publicly available OMICS data for their research goals. The course covers how to explore data structure and variability, identify biologically meaningful changes, and translate analytical results into biological insight.

The optional extension provides a next step for participants who wish to advance beyond graphical interfaces towards fully reproducible and flexible analyses. In this second part (Thursday and Friday), participants are introduced to the R environment and the Bioconductor ecosystem, where they learn how the concepts covered in the core workshop are implemented in practice using script-based workflows to carry out reproducible, state-of-the-art OMICS data analysis.
